Palestinian Tatreez style Kuffieyeh made in Jordan | Hattah, Kuffeyeh, Kufiya
Description
This is the classic Palestinian keffiyeh with a Tatreez (Embroidery) finish made in Jordan, the other side is stitched together making the keffiyeh have a stronger hold.
The keffiyeh’s role evolved in the 20th century, especially during the British Mandate period in Palestine (1917–1948) and the rise of Palestinian nationalism. It became a symbol of resistance and unity for Palestinians, who used it to express their national identity and opposition to foreign occupation.
In the 1930s and 1940s, during the Palestinian Arab revolt against British colonial rule and later against the Zionist movement, the keffiyeh became a prominent symbol worn by leaders and activists involved in the resistance. Palestinian nationalists, including prominent figures like Yasser Arafat, adopted the keffiyeh as an emblem of solidarity and defiance.
This specific keffiyeh is stitched on one side making it fold like a triangle, to where its easy to put on your back, head, hip, and more.
What to do if the stitching on the kuffieyeh has loose threads?
Loose threads on a keffiyeh, or any woven fabric, are typically caused by fraying or damage to the edges or other parts of the fabric. Here are a few things you can do to manage or repair loose threads:
Trim the Threads: If the loose threads are minimal, carefully trim them using a pair of sharp scissors. Be sure to avoid cutting into the fabric itself.
Tie a Knot: If the threads are longer and might unravel further, you can tie a small knot at the end of each loose thread to prevent it from getting worse.
Sewing or Weaving: For larger areas of fraying or loose threads, you can weave the fabric back together using a needle and thread of the same color. This works well for preserving the look of the keffiyeh.
Use Fabric Glue: In some cases, a fabric glue can be used to secure the threads to prevent further unraveling. Apply it carefully along the edges or any frayed areas.
Preventive Care: To avoid further fraying, try to handle the keffiyeh gently when washing or storing it, and avoid excessive pulling on the fabric.
These steps should help you maintain the integrity of your keffiyeh. If it's a vintage or valuable item, you may want to consider taking it to a professional tailor or textile restorer for repairs.
